From the ferry terminal on Isla Mujeres, it is an easy walk... take a right and walk about 2 blocks past the Navy base. Turn Left when the road splits to take the Caribbean side. From this point, you will see Casa Cielo, a big blue house, on the Caribbean side. It currently had a large fish Mural painted on the front wall. The house is almost directly across from the car ferry. If you would rather take a taxi, there is a taxi stand to the left as you are exiting the ferry.
Once you reach the unit, you will enter through the security gate (code will be provided) and go up one flight of stairs. Turn to your right, and you will see your patio and door on the side of the house near the stairs to the rooftop. The lock box is to the left of the door (code will be provided)
For info on getting from the airport and other helpful tips, see below....
Whether this is your first time on Isla Mujeres, or you’ve been before, this guide might provide you with a few tips or just suggestions to help you get settled on to the island.
Tips for the trip:
Immigration at the airport is pretty easy! Just take the form the airline gave you on board and follow the crowd to the immigration line. Be sure to keep the tourist visa part with your passport during your trip and be ready to provide it when you leave. If you lose it, it just creates extra steps to leave the country and usually extra money.
Once through immigration, if you have checked luggage you will go to pick that up, and then you will pass through Customs, where you will have to show the second form you filled out while on the plane. Here they will have you press a button that will hopefully turn green to go straight through. Randomly, it does turn red, and you must have your luggage searched.
After you exit this area you will walk through sliding glass doors, and almost immediately be approached by people offering you hotel stays or transfers. If you arrange one ahead of time (which is recommended) it will probably save you money and a hassle.
There are many ways to arrange to get from the airport to the ferry (30 minutes). Basically, you can book a shared shuttle service, such as Best Day or Happy Shuttle, or book a private transfer. Our favorites are “CARM” (Trina is the owner and they provide free transfers for people who volunteer to transport rescue dogs from our local rescue, Isla Animals, to their furever home!) or “At Your Service Cancun” (Felipe is the owner) Both services are very professional and reliable.
Once at the ferry you will need to buy tickets, or if you arranged transport with CARM or AYSC, they will provide these tickets as part of your transfer package. The Ferry generally leaves every 30 minutes.
Once on the island is probably the best time to exchange money or withdraw from the ATM. There is a money exchange just as you exit the ferry terminal to your right. HSBC ATM is directly across the street from the ferry. ATMs do get hacked, so if you choose to use them, take precautions such as having only a small amount of money in that account, and changing your PIN code directly after withdrawing money. Exchanging USD is safest however you sacrifice some in the exchange rate.
Now that you are on the island, Casa Cielo is easy to get to! Many taxi drivers will know it by name, but if not, you can tell them it’s at the airport, and then that it is big and blue and the first house on the Navy airstrip just outside of town on the Caribbean side (it also has its name written on the porch).
